TRAINING EVALUATION
Four-type
evaluation processes
were designed to evaluate the
participants’ firstly expressed expectations, the
conduct, programme contents and deliveries, training
instructors/facilitators, the attainment level of skills and knowledge and
the overall participants’ observations on
the subjects,
facilities and secretariat services.
They are classsified into:
(1) post-class survey by training subject
presented and discussed,
(2) post-field survey by MFI visited, (3) overall evaluation;
and (4)
review
of
the participants’ expectations expressed in written
before
starting the
training sessions
on the very first day following the opening session right away.
The synthesis based on the cross-checked tabulations of the participants’
feedbacks -- as tabulated by
Ms.
Christina Sudiro -- could be summarized as follows:

Comments/suggestions to
improve your experience: |
|
By capturing what have been
said
to
my experience to add on it |
1 |
More time should be given
for country papers presentation |
1 |
Participants be advised to
prepare presentation in power point format |
1 |
No problem with first
session |
1 |
I like the PNM structure. It
is a good way/intervention through which governments can support MFIs/SMEs
so as to alleviate poverty |
1 |
For improvement I support a
wider variety of meals to allow choice |
1 |
I hope that the Director of
NAM CSSTC and representative of JICA were present while participants
presenting country papers |
1 |
Allow participants with
similar cases/institutions in their countries to share experiences |
1 |
Satisfied with the status
quo |
1 |
Being a policy maker, I have
greatly benefited from this session. It will assist me to recommend
the policies and programmes aimed at developing the microfinancial
sector thus developing the micro, small and medium enterprises sector |
1 |
Good to learn from this
program and share my experience back home |
1 |
Future arrangements should
be organized in a way participants have nothing to worry about, except
training itself. Contingency
arrangements should be made for emergencies |
1 |
To apply this course
in different African countries so as to interchange the ideas and
strengthen the experiences |
1 |
Give more time for debate |
1 |
I wish we also done of the
centre staff to talk to us about general life in Indonesia, society,
culture and other non-class topics after 5 pm. So that we can know how
to socialize and interact safely within the town/city, during the
hours after class |
1 |
I pick up a lot from what we
are getting from facilitator, that's why I will be able to give
to others |
1 |
Have no problem

1 |
No problem but need for time

1 |
Cite visits are important
and very interesting |
3 |

1 |
Very interesting session |
2 |
The number of participants
should be increased to 13 |
1 |
Visits to MFIs Corporation
should be part an partial of the course |
1 |
Business Plan for MFI: best
presentation of the programme. The tool provided by SWOT based on "Sumber:
Strategic Management" book is very useful tool that I had never heard
of it before. It is an amazing tool and will help MFIs in my country |
1 |
Important course |
1 |
Time management should be
adhered to |
5 |
Very good class, with
interesting class work and discussion |
1 |
Good |
4 |

1 |
A good course in a sense
that the way we are taught you can be able to deliver to others |
1 |
The time is too short to
understand every definitions and name of all type of MFIs |
1 |
Very interesting |
2 |
Very new topic especially
for me having come from a non-Islamic country. I suggest this topic in
future should be iven more time an field work because ut us a bit touh
to grasp given the strong Islamic inclination |
1 |
New concept. The session has
been helpful in making me understand the concept. Very interesting and
educative |
1 |
Further, to fully undestand
the concept there is need to allocate more time so as to fully
understand each stage of iplementing the concepts an challenges that
could be faced the benefits to the community and th country as a
whole. Good concept to alleviate poverty in Zambia |
1 |
Is it possible to have some
literature/books on Sharia finance as it is one of the areas of
interest of my institution in the near future |
1 |
At that time woild it be
possible to benefit from avisory services or technical services that
are offered by CSSTC? Or would we contact PNM directly? |
1 |
We gained very important
info how to establish Sharia Banks and also case studies which
enriches the concept of
Sharia
and its
difference
with the
conventional
banks |
1 |
Visits are very important
for such issues namely if it has a relation with previous lecture,
i.e. this will strengthen the experience an make it vey clear to the
participants |
3 |
Good presentation, very
practical and essential, for refreshment and strengthen knowledge |
1 |

3 |
Need to provide more
reference/books for further consultation or fully understanding the
concept when we get back at home |
1 |
Good session |
1 |
MFI Supervision case study
is needed |
1 |
MFI Supervision is long
topic, need more time, maybe two sessions, so that we do not go very
fast through it |
1 |
The course is very important
and interesting. |
1 |
There is a need to povide
references to study in our won countries, particularly soft copies |
1 |
The facilitator was fast
because of time limitation |
1 |
There is need to work on
this time management |
1 |
Supervision very much
important and visit site. Good |
1 |
Site's visits are important |
2 |
Good for learning risk in
this training about the MFI |

Very interesting |
1 |
Very important and exciting

B. Overall Evaluation
Basically there are two kinds of evaluation. First is to evaluate the
filled-out Form of Expectation distributed beforehand to the participants,
then to openly discuss the compiled original statements written by the
participants together in class. Second is to evaluate the filled-out form
of overall evaluation after completion of all training subjects delivered
including the field studies. The overall evaluation is summarized as
follows:
1. On Expectation
There are 4 (four) main issues expressed by the participants
concerning: (1) understanding the microfinance; (2) putting substances
delivered to their countries’ context; (3) possible application of
knowledge and experiences learned; and (4) other expectations. They choose
MET to indicate their expectations are met, and NOT MET if their
expectations are not met.
Result of the assessment concerning the participants’ expectations that
was openly discussed among themselves is as follows:

Wished to spend more time at

an MFI/SME and spend more quality time than we did as a big group for
a few minutes |

Comments/suggestions to
improve our future planning: |

Happy and content with
Indonesian facilitators. No need for additional expenses on
foreign
facilitators |

The training programme is
well organized and fruitful. So I don’t have any comment except keep
it up |
1 |
In the general the
interaction was smooth and friendly.
I do have a great respect to the Government of Indonesia, JICA, NAM
CSSTC, aand also the people of Indonesia. Thanks for giving me such
very essential training. I wish you success |

Increase the effectiveness
of field study by: a)
more time (2 weeks of field study only); b) less group size visit
(maybe 3-6 participants visit one MFI at a time) |
1 |
Rather than focusing an
annual training for a different set of paticipants, NAM CSSTC should
have a record of Allumni (past participants), and take time to invite
them back
fo follow
up and review of back home plans. And building their capacity even
further with new/changing MF pactices, competencies
and skills. "Intensity always beats existensity" |
1 |
Suggesting to invite foreign
facilitators from Bangladesh, GTZ, World Bank |
1 |
Do the best for food in
Jakarta (In Yogyakarta it was very nice and tasty) |
1 |
Arrangements on meeting
participants at airport on arival is very crucial. For instance the
assigned person to meet us was not visible and we had to spend 45
minutes looking for him at
the aiport |
1 |
Field planning does not have
to be about visiting clients in an unco-ordinated way. Clear
objectives should be
set. Howeve visiting MFIs was arranged perfectly well |
1 |
Considering reducing the topics
and increasing the time allocated to each topic instead. It would
probably
improve the quality |
1 |
Considered the participants
menu, maybe on weekend to have food from their home country if they
are interested |
1 |
Suggesting that the time
allocated for trainers should be adequate. Most of the trainers were
rushing due to time limitation, therefore
denying the aticipants chance to fully understand some concepts. To
address this issue, the organizers might consider extending the
duration of the course or reduce the number of topics |
1 |
You just take it up as it is
you are doing dine as far as my concern
and understanding everything almost good. Keep it up that way |
1 |
Extend the training
duration, about three weeks at least because it may help participants
to understand much better every course |
1 |
What have been done
concerning planning was very sophisticated,
more over it was very scientific and always hits on the point. I would
never
expect
more than that, unless if you don’t mind, you have to strengthen
Sharia method and try to tanslate Arabic
words into English so as to be known internationally |
1 |
Training materials should be
reviewed by someone with a good level of proficiency in English before
presented at the training sessions |
1 |
Presenters should be encouraged
to make use of flipcharts
for further explanations and demonstration of concepts |
