Enhancing Value-Added Agriculture: Online Training on Mango Product Development for the Caribbeans
Virtual, 5-8 May 2025.
As part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen South-South Cooperation and promote agri-based value addition, the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC), in collaboration with Ministry of Industry of Indonesia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, and Polytechnic ATI Padang, successfully conducted an online international training on Dried Mango Processing and Mango Jelly Products during “Food Commodity Processing Training Based on Mang and Banana Products”.
This training program was designed to support the development of value-added agricultural products among 14 participating Caribbean countries, responding to growing regional interest in diversifying mango-based commodities. The program forms part of a broader series of technical trainings on tropical fruits, particularly mangoes and bananas, offered to Caribbean nations under Indonesia's commitment to advancing productive, inclusive, and sustainable agro-industries through knowledge sharing.
Hosted virtually via Zoom, the training combined technical instruction with interactive panel discussions, providing a platform for direct engagement between participants and Indonesian food processing experts. Sessions included detailed modules on:
Production Process;
Product Packaging;
Waste Management; and
Business Plan.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about the applicability of the knowledge shared, noting the potential impact on rural entrepreneurship and agro-industry enhancement in their respective countries.
This initiative underscores Indonesia’s growing role in promoting South-South knowledge exchange and highlights NAM CSSTC’s ongoing efforts to create inclusive development partnerships through technical cooperation and institutional capacity building.
