NAM CSSTC Participation in the 61st ICC Meeting Amid Calls for Global Coconut Sector Sustainability
On November 18-21 2025, The Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) participated as an observer organization in the 61st Session of the International Coconut Community (ICC) Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, joining 16 out of 21 ICC member states and partner organizations in discussions toward a more resilient and sustainable coconut industry. The forum focused on several issues including sustainable cultivation, trade, climate resilience, pest & disease management, and market opportunities. ICC member states reported on national developments and policy measures to support the long-term development of the coconut sector.
Representing the Centre, H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, Director of NAM CSSTC, highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation in strengthening the coconut sector and addressing common challenges through knowledge exchange and capacity-building. He further stated that “the future of the coconut industry rests in the hands of the young generation,” noting that youth empowerment and their active engagement is the key to ensure a sustainable, innovative, and resilient coconut sector.
Looking ahead, NAM CSSTC called for greater youth participation in revitalizing the coconut industry. This includes developing skilled young farmers, entrepreneurs, and innovators, as well as advancing climate-adaptive agricultural practices through expanded cooperation among Global South countries.
