NAM CSSTC’s Report during 8thBi-Annual Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association Committee of Senior Officials (IORA CSO) on Implementation of Memorandum of Understanding between the NAM CSSTC and the IORA

(30-31 July 2018) – Delegates of Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) presented report on implementation of Memorandum of Understanding between the NAM CSSTC and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) during 8th Bi-Annual Meeting of the IORA CSO with key points as follows:
Brief information on NAM CSSTC, particularly programmes that have been implemented by the NAM CSSTC since 2001 on sustainable development, politics, economy, social and culture.
As a realisation of MoU between the two organisations, the NAM CSSTC in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia invited 40 countries, including 18 IORA Member States to attend “International Training on Fisheries for Asia and the Pacific Countries” and “International Training on Aquaculture for African Countries” implemented from 15 to 21 July 2018 in Banyuwangi, East Java-Indonesia. The trainings successfully facilitated network between IORA Member States and other Asia, the Pacific and African countries to enhance human resource capacity in utilisation of eco-friendly fishing gears and aquaculture.
NAM CSSTC encouraged active involvement of IORA Secretariat to ensure the next programmes successfully target the objectives of IORA Member States. In addition, the NAM CSSTC cordially invited IORA Secretariat to explore cooperation in tourism, waste management, fisheries and women’s economic empowerment.
NAM CSSTC reaffirmed the importance of strengthening and implementing programmes as stipulated under the MoU, and requested IORA Member States to participate in capturing demand exercise.
